Some audio books can be listened to with a handheld PDA which plays the file type.
Not all PDAs play all file types. Handheld players also include MP3 players which will usually play many but not all audio formats. An example of this is an iPod will not play Windows Media Audio files. Players which play Windows Media Audio will not play Apple products.

Some MP3 players also serve as FM radios. Some can record a radio broadcast or local voices, such as a lecture or discussion. A new trend on MP3 players is to include a small screen for displaying static and moving images, such as digital photos, music videos, TV shows, and movies.
